SEIZE

A Hemp-on-Loom Innovation
Apparel & Textile

(Undergrad Thesis)

Seize is a collection of modular garments of equal parts reclaimed denim jeans and handwoven hemp textiles from the Nuapatna and Mainabandha Ikat cluster (Odisha, India). Responding to the fashion industry's significant environmental footprint, the initiative actively engages skilled artisans from the Ikat cluster, integrating their traditional Ikat weaving techniques with contemporary sustainable design.

The modular nature of the garments allows wearers to transform and reconfigure pieces according to their needs, further extending usefulness and reducing consumption. Through meticulous deconstruction and reconstruction processes, the project breathes new life into discarded denim while showcasing hemp's environmental benefits as a low-water, pesticide-free alternative fiber. The resulting collection stands as a tangible demonstration of circular economy principles
